February 2010: Tax Jobs in The UK?

An increasing amount of Tax Jobs (across the UK) are being released by firms planning for the upturn. Whilst the ‘recovery’ has been muted, a number of entrepreneurial minded firms and tax consultancies have been taking a long-term view with their recruitment strategy and have hired accordingly. The Big 4 have been recruiting for key positions and have plans to build up a number of its specialist teams. This has led to a greater number of tax vacancies across the UK. Recruitment drives and growth driven tax recruitment remain scarce, however, employers are replacing staff that move on. Whilst this in itself may not appear wildly dramatic, it is a definite improvement in the tax market and significantly better then anything that 2009 had to offer.

Our View:

We remain optimistic about the future and feel a greater sense of positive sentiment from the majority of our clients. There are of course dangers that remain within the global economy and no guarantee that the first quarter figures will be matched by the increasing levels of confidence we are sensing. However, providing we continue our way towards positive growth, the tax recruitment market will continue to release more tax vacancies.
